As well as programming an
eclectic variety of top-quality established artists, we provide a
platform for emerging and developing performers through open mic spots
at our events and a new series of workshops and masterclasses from our
special guests.
The
first of these will be delivered by none other than World Poetry Slam
Champion Harry Baker! Suitable for first-time writers and experienced
poets alike, the workshop will use Harry’s experience of poetry slams to
focus on connecting with the audience in the room, as well as the joy
of writing for the sake of it and being playful with language.
Attendees
will have a chance to write by themselves and perform in small groups
and to the larger group in an encouraging pressure-free environment.
There will be prompts and guidance given along the way as well as a
freedom to break any rules suggested if inspiration takes them that
way.
The
workshop will take place in the Royal Exchange Studio from 2 – 4.30pm.
Places cost £5, which includes a free ticket to Pen:Chant that
evening at Gullivers, Northern Quarter, featuring a headline set from
Harry, as well as the electrifying, soulful singer/songwriter Julie E
Gordon and rising stars of the sketch-comedy scene Norris & Parker!
